Danny Williams on a big result at Madejski Stadium...
Royals midfielder Danny Williams was delighted after Reading’s dramatic turnaround against Brentford, and was full of praise for the squad for the team spirit and character they showed in digging out a late result to take all three points at home.
After going a goal up, the Royals we’re pegged back to 1-1 and then fell behind thanks to two Brentford goals early in the second half. Reading were not beaten however, and managed to first equalise through Williams, before Roy Beerens fired home a late winner.
“It was a crazy game,” reflected Williams. “I think it was one of the craziest this season! The first 20 minutes we started very well and then we just lost track a bit and the game started to open up.
“It just felt like the momentum was going back and forth, it was a tough one and everyone was very tired, but the lads were buzzing in the dressing room after the game. It’s a massive result.
“It shows you the character again,” continued Williams. “It’s something we’ve shown many times this season. The team spirit in that dressing room is just unbelievable and obviously the gaffer did a great job.”
The 27-year-old believes the victory underlined the change in mind-set the team has shown this season under the new manager, and the result was testament to the hard work the squad have put in the improve throughout the campaign.
“I think in the past we would have lost that game 3-1,” said the midfielder. “Trying to score the equaliser to make to 2-2 but getting caught on the counter. This time we fought back, everybody is on the same page and I think if anybody doubted us they got their answers because it isn’t the first time we’ve come from behind to win this season.
“It sounds like a cliché but there really are no easy games in this division. It must sound like we repeat ourselves but the league is so tough, you look at the other results, there are no guaranteed wins here.
“Newcastle drew, Brighton drew and Derby lost at home,” Williams continued. “It shows that if you are not spot on then you can lose games or drop points.
“We said we wanted a result against Brentford because it felt like we had lost four points in the previous two games, so it felt very good after the game to get the win.”
