Reading FC Women will welcome Chelsea, Manchester City, Notts County and Birmingham City to Adams Park in the WSL Spring Series – which kicks off this April!
The Spring Series is a one-off interim competition, which is bridging the gap between the FA WSL 2016 season (which ran over the summer months) and the forthcoming 2017/18 campaign when the schedule transitions to a more traditional football calendar, spanning the winter period. Each team will play each other once, and the overall leader will lift the trophy at the start of June.
And all of the Royals’ home fixtures take place within the space of 25 days – kicking off with a visit from Fran Kirby’s Chelsea on Wednesday 3rd May!
Manchester City visit the following Sunday, with Notts County and Birmingham City visit later in the month. That means away visits to Bristol City, Liverpool, Yeovil, Arsenal and finally Sunderland.
It provides an opportunity for game-time for many of the international players across the league, which is an important factor ahead of this summer’s European Championships. Held in the Netherlands this year, Dutch captain and recent Royals arrival Mandy van den Berg will have an opportunity to reach peak fitness in time for the international tournament on home turf!
Before the Spring Series kicks off, Reading FC Women will also play in their Women’s FA Cup fifth round tie, which is scheduled for Sunday 19th March. They will learn their opponents when the draw is made shortly after the fourth round, which takes place on Sunday 19th February.
