Royals midfielder John Swift praised the character of the Reading squad in what he described as an eventful clash with his former club Brentford at Madejski Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The midfielder notched up his eighth goal of the season for the Royals when he opened the scoring to put Reading into a deserved lead. The home eventually came away 3-2 winners after a topsy-turvy affair under the lights.
“I’m sure it was a good game to watch,” said Swift. “It was an eventful game during the first 20 minutes, they were on top and then at the start of the second half they put us under a lot of pressure.
“It was good to show character to come back from 2-1 especially looking at the results elsewhere as well a few of which went our way so it helped us put pressure on the team around us.”
“Every goal I score is great for me to keep getting my confidence up,” he continued. “I just want to keep getting them and keep getting in the right place at the right time.”
After a game where momentum switched between the two sides on several occasions the midfielder understood Brentford may have felt they could have had more from the game, but believes the Royals were worthy of all three points come the final whistle.
“I think as a team we did well to come in at half time 1-0 up. We came out a bit sloppily at the start of the second half and ended up going 2-1 down with a lack of concentration,” Swift admitted.
“The boys that came on did themselves proud. They came on and effected the game turned the game around and helped win it for us.
“The momentum of the game kept switching between Brentford and us. It was a really tight game but that’s football and I think the fact that we came out on top was the right outcome.
“Watching on from the bench at the end when we were defending the lead with all the fans in the stadium it was quite nerve-wracking but we don’t panic and managed to see it out.”
