Royals under 18s swept aside Crystal Palace with a 3-1 victory on Saturday morning at the Eagles’ training ground - their fourth successive league win.
Craig Tanner opened the scoring with an impressive individual goal, taking the ball past two defenders before finishing well.
However Reading were made to pay for squandering chances to double their lead, as Palace pulled one back midway through the first half.
But the visitors responded well – with Tariqe Fosu putting the youngsters back in front after some terrific wing play.
Unsurprisingly Palace showed plenty of attacking intent in the second period, giving Reading opportunities to launch counter attacks.
Indeed Eamonn Dolan & David Dodds’ side took advantage of their pace on the break to seal the victory, as Fosu grabbed his brace to put the result beyond doubt.
“At times we didn’t make the most of our chances to kill the game off, but I thought we deserved to win 3-1,” said Dodds.
“Since we have entered the Elite league after Christmas, the standard has certainly gone up a couple of notches. It took us a while to get used to that but we’ve done that now and we’re really improving week by week.”
