Hope comes straight in

New signing Hope Akpan made probably the quickest debut in Reading FC history when he lined up for our reserves against QPR on Tuesday afternoon.

The 21-year-old put pen to paper at Madejski Stadium at just after 11am, and immediately made his way to west London for the friendly match as the paperwork was being ratified and submitted.

Kick-off had been put back slightly to 12:45pm, giving him a little more time to be ready for a second half appearance at Rangers' training ground. He arrived just after the game kicked off, and shook hands with everyone on our bench as he warmed up with reserve team Sports Scientist Ross Herridge.

Hope came on for Ryan Edwards at the interval and played with Daniel Carrico in the middle of the park, linking up with the Portuguese on a few occasions and also showed good strength up against a QPR midfield containing the likes of Alejandro Faurlin.

It was of course only a relatively gentle runout, but a good opportunity for both newboys to get time under their belt in a Reading shirt. And it was a positive afternoon all round with all goals coming in the second half in a 3-1 win, two goals for Simon Church and one for Jordan Obita.
