The Royals can confirm that midfielder Hope Akpan has taken squad number 28.
The 21-year-old enjoyed his first full training session with the club, after playing 45 minutes in a friendly win over QPR in midweek. He joins Daniel Carrico – who has already been confirmed as taking shirt number 29.
Supporters looking to show their support for the new boy can currently enjoy 25% off replica kits, with shirt printing also available on matchdays via our kiosk outside the North Stand.
Speaking about Hope this week – manager Brian McDermott said: “He’s a confident lad, in a good way. I spoke to David Moyes about him because he had him at Everton, and he spoke really highly of him.
“He let him go when he was 19 and to Hope’s credit, he came to Crawley, a long way from home, lived on his own – looked after himself and he’s played 50 odd games. Daniel (Carrico) is more of a sitting midfield player who gets on the ball and passes it, where-as Hope can get forward more, get into the box and score goals. He’s got a good energy about him. They’re both hungry and want to do well.”
