Brian McDermott says he would have no problem with Adam Le Fondre taking a penalty to save someone's life!
Only Frank Lampard has scored more Premier League penalties this season, and Adam scored a vital spot-kick to make it 2-2 against West Brom this Saturday to help a sensational eight-minute comeback.
McDermott said, "He's always cool, not just from the penalty spot but whenever he's in the box. You'd have him taking a penalty for your life!"
Brian has lots of striking options available to him, and with the Royals playing one up front in the last five Barclays Premier League games it makes the decision making process even harder.
The tactical switch has helped the Royals to mid-table in the form guide and the boss said, "It's a dilemma for me, Alfie can score goals. He's done that off the bench and did it last season, he is a great weapon for me but that doesn't mean I see him as a sub. I said to him last season he would win us the Championship, it might be from the bench, and he did just that. We trust each other and it's worked for us."
At the start of last season Alfie was plying his trade for Rotherham in League Two, but his rise to the top flight has been seamless. "18 months ago he was in the lower leagues, now he's in the Barclays Premier League and I’m delighted for him. We have a unique situation, everybody going in the same direction."
