Royals boss looks to Newcastle

Brian McDermott is relishing a trip to St. James’ Park this weekend – and revealed to his pre-match press conference that this will remarkably be his first trip to the ground!

The Royals boss also spoke highly of the job former Reading manager Alan Pardew has done on Tyneside – and has warned against underestimating the Toon, despite a recent lapse in form.

“Alan has done wonders there, there’s no doubt about that – he was manager of the year last season,” said Brian.

“We all have difficult times in football, that’s the nature of what we do for a living. Newcastle is a big club, they’ve got good players – but my concern is our team and our club.

“I’ve never been there as a player, never been there as a manager, never been there as a scout – so I’m looking forward to going up there. I know the atmosphere is fantastic there and the ground itself is fantastic.”

McDermott’s pre-match press conference will soon be available on Reading FC Player – whilst the official site will also bring you more from the manager later this week.
