Royals Academy on the surge

Assistant academy manager David Dodds says the side are under-18s are aiming for a top three finish - which would guarantee a place in the Barclays U18 Premier League final stage.

The Royals youngsters are currently 4th out of the eight teams in the Elite League with five games to go. They are just four points behind third-placed Southampton with three games in hand - and face the Saints at Hogwood Park next week.

"That's what we're aiming for - a top three finish," said Dodds. "That's the target, to get into the play-offs and then try and win it.

"We're got some talented players here who have been part of the team that has gone on a great run, so full credit to the lads."

A third place finish would set up a semi-final against the second placed side (currently Man Utd) - before the final. Click here for a chart of how the final stage would work.
