The Royals were rewarded for their FA Cup with Budweiser exploits with a huge trip to Manchester United in the fifth round.
The game will take place on the weekend of 16th/17th February at Old Trafford. A few notes to supporters:
- Ticket prices and selling details are currently being discussed by both clubs and will be announced in the coming days.
- This is the only all-Premier League tie in the fifth round.
- Every Manchester United FA Cup game since January 2005 has been shown live on TV.
- Both Manchester United and Manchester City have been drawn at home, so it would appear unlikely both clubs will play on the same day.
Royals boss Brian McDermott is eagerly anticipating the trip to Manchester, saying, "If we're going to do it, we're going to do it the hard way, no doubt about it! Listen, going there in front of 70,000 people is fantastic for the lads and the supporters. We're looking forward to it, being on the touchline next to Sir Alex is always great. I've spent some time in his company recently which was great.
"We've got some big games before then of course and we will concentrate solely on them. It's great to be in the next round, some big teams have gone out and it makes our result against Sheffield United look even better. We know all about Old Trafford, the place is steeped in history and like I say we'll look forward to it when it comes around."
The Royals knocked out Manchester United in our best-ever FA Cup run when we reached the semi-finals in 1927, while we drew at Old Trafford in the fifth round in 2006 thanks to a goal from Brynjar Gunnarsson.
