A number of first team players got important minutes under their belts with a comprehensive friendly win at Brentford.
Jake Taylor fired the Royals ahead with a strike outside the box after some great work from Nick Blackman, before Hal Robson-Kanu achieved a similar feat from 25 yards.
Simon Church scored a brace before the interval to give the Royals a commanding half time lead - and continued to dominate and cause problems in the second 45.
Robson-Kanu scored another and Blackman converted a penalty to make it six for the afternoon - with no reply from the Bees.
Royals XI: S Taylor, Gunter, Keown, Sweeney (Cooper 65), Cummings; Taylor, D'Ath, Carrico, Robson-Kanu; Blackman, Church.
Coach Chris Cummings was pleased with the margin of victory but moreover was satisfied with the attitude shown by the players.
He said: "We were comfortable for the win but the most important thing was that players got some important game time. The attitude and application of the players was excellent.
"It was also great to see young Keown and Sweeney at centre half together keeping a clean sheet which can only give them confidence. Overall, I was really pleased with the afternoon."
