New man Hope Akpan is delighted to become a Royal and can't wait to illustrate what he can do on the pitch.
"It feels really good to sign," he told Reading FC Player
. "I'm really excited and hopeful of what the future holds. I'm fit and raring to go and I can't wait to get started.
"It was a good quick run out. I came on at half time and got involved in the game with a few touches. It was nice to be introduced to some of the young players and a few senior players. They've all been dead friendly and dead helpful. I'm really excited to start training."
The 21-year-old from Crawley Town paid tribute to Red Devils' Director of Football Steve Coppell, and said that hearing from manager Brian McDermott - and knowing the club's track record of developing young players - convinced the midfielder to sign.
"Steve was great - he didn't really get involved day-to-day with training but he always had a helpful word, great guidance and knowledge. That was key to me playing well at Crawley," he explained.
"I think I'm capable to play in the Premier League. Brian obviously got in contact with me and everything he has said to me has been great so hopefully I can do really well here and prove him right.
"I've seen the club bring a lot of young players through, some from the lower leagues. They've come to Reading and done well. There's loads. The likes of Shane Long and Kevin Doyle have come from Reading and established themselves in the Premier League so hopefully I can do the same here."
