Royston in squad

There was good news as Royals manager Nigel Adkins had Royston Drenthe back in his 18-man squad on Tuesday night after eleven weeks out injured.

The wideman was an unused sub as we saw off Charlton 1-0 at Madejski Stadium, and it was the Dutch international's first involvement in a matchday squad since our game with Leeds in September.

Danny Williams - also just back from injury - came off with a calf concern and is being monitored ahead of this weekend's game with AFC Bournemouth.

Adkins said, "Royston was back in the squad after a long time out and that was good news.

"Danny came off, you could see five minutes beforehand he was stretching, he was labouring a little and you'd like to think he'll be OK for the weekend but we'll see, we'll have an MOT on all the players in the next couple of days."

The boss said in his programme notes that Chris Baird is the only other injured player who could return this month - meaning Wayne Bridge, Sean Morrison, Mikele Leigertwood, Jason Roberts and Jem Karacan are continuing their rehab.

Meanwhile the boss also told reporters that young defender Niall Keown picked up an injury so that ruled him out of contention.
