Royals see off Eastleigh

A Reading FC XI defeated Eastleigh 4-2 on Saturday afternoon, with Jem Karacan and Brynjar Gunnarsson getting valuable minutes under their belt after injury. First team pros Sean Morrison and Nicky Shorey also played the full game to continue their pre-season preparations.

Reading came from 2-0 down to win the game, with Craig Tanner scoring twice and Jake Taylor & Aarson Tshibola also on the scoresheet.

Coach Chris Cummins said, "In the second half we showed really good energy and effort, and dominated the game having not actually started that well. Early on we looked a little unsure and gave away two goals through individual mistakes. We had the senior boys coming into the team after not being in this group for six weeks, so as the game went on we came into our own.

"Just before half time Jake Taylor scored from 20 yards after a nice flowing move, we dominated the second half, scored three decent goals and could have scored more. On the hour Jem Karacan went on a good run and Aaron Tshibola finished from 15 yards, then Craig Tanner scored two good goals, first from Nicky Shorey's throughball and then on a rebound from Charlie Lossaso's shot.

"As I say in the first half we didn't play well but in the second half Nicky Shorey showed what he is all about, a good technician and very rarely gives it away. Sean Morrison was dominant and on the front foot second half as well. Most of all, Jem got 75 minutes and Bryn got his first 45 for a couple of weeks which were both positives, that is the main thing at this time of the season."
