Skipper keen to get going again

Jobi McAnuff says the warm weather training trip to UAE could give them the timely boost they need - with less than a third of the Barclays Premier League season remaining.

On the back of a narrow defeat at Stoke City, the captain is keen for the Royals to resume their impressive form with some important fixtures on the horizon.

Following our first defeat since New Year's Day, he said, "We've just got to get ourselves going again. The loss was on the back of a decent run of form and we'll be ready to go again. We've got some massive games coming up, particularly at home.  We know we've got to win those games and pick up some points on the road too. We can take heart from the run we have been on and we've given ourselves a great chance.

"You know what you're going to get when you play Stoke. It was a tough game and we had to dig deep - which we did for the majority of the game. It was a disappointing goal from our point of view - it was a set piece which is obviously one of their strengths and it was always going to come down to that.

"We were fairly comfortable in the first half - they had a spell where they had a few corners in a row but I thought we defended well and didn't really threaten us that much. If you ask any team when they come there, whether it's us or Man United, it's always a tough game and I think on your travels you've got to make sure you're solid first and foremost - which we were. I thought we could have used the ball a bit better as we did create chances - but it wasn't quite there."

Brian McDermott's men are currently training at Al-Wasl FC in Dubai and Jobi feels it's the ideal preparation for the Royals' mouthwatering FA Cup fifth cup tie at Old Trafford next Monday.

"It's good to get everyone together away from the training ground for a few days training and a bit of sun. I'm sure it will give us that little boost to go on and have a really good end to the season.

"It's one to look forward to - a really good game for us and whatever team is selected will go to win the game - as we always do. It's nice to get a game away from the league where we can enjoy it - they don't get any bigger than against Man United at Old Trafford. We'll be looking forward to that and making sure we're ready for the league afterwards."
