Reading FC Women are pleased to announce the arrival of attacking players Shelley Cox and Lauren Bruton.
The pair are new manager Jayne Ludlow's
first signings and complement a very talented group of players who secured the League and Cup double last season, and look forward to a new challenge in the Womens Super League 2
in April 2014.
Cox signs from Portsmouth while Bruton has arrived from Arsenal, and both players have played alongside Ludlow earlier in their careers and are delighted to be working under her.
Read our factfiles below to meet our new signings...
As a player: Left sided attacking player who is comfortable as a full-back and on the wing.
Has played for: Portsmouth, Southampton, Doncaster Bells, Birmingham, Bristol Academy, Leeds et al.
In quotes: “It’s great to be here, the set-up is very organised. I played with Jayne at Southampton when I was a teenager so it’s great to link up again.
“The training sessions have been of a high standard already. The Super League doesn’t start until April next year, but we’ll be getting ready in the mean time before a six-week break over Christmas. After that, the training programme will be very intense leading up to the new season.”
As a player: Primarily a winger, Lauren can also play as a forward or a playmaker. She is a skilful player and technically astute. Has played for England at U17s and U19s level.
Has played for: Luton town, Arsenal, Barnet (loan).
In quotes: “I am delighted to join Reading. Coming from Arsenal it’s totally different, but when I saw that Luds (Ludlow) was named as manager, that sealed my decision.
“I have heard many good things about the set-up, there’s a good structure in place with many talented players. From the first training session I could tell the standard here is very good, so hopefully I can help build on their success from last season.
“We’re in a mini-pre-season now, which will get us all raring to go. By January we should be flying and in good condition in the build up to the Super League.”
