Adam Le Fondre has signed a new deal with the Royals that will keep him at the club until June 2015.
The striker has proved to be a big hit at Madejski Stadium since arriving from Rotherham United in August 2011 – finishing as Reading’s top scorer for the season as his 12 goals helped rocket Brian McDermott’s side to the Championship title.
“From a personal level this deal is great for me. I have always had the self-belief that I can play at the highest level and I really appreciate that Reading feel the same,” said Le Fondre.
“I think it shows just how far I have come since signing with Reading from Rotherham, the club are now trying to establish themselves in the Premier League and stay up this season.”
Adam’s rise up the divisions has been meteoric, jumping from League Two football to the Barclays Premier League in the space of a year – and looking comfortable at every stage, scoring on his top flight debut against Stoke City.
“Alfie has a great story; a year ago he was playing in League Two and now he's a striker in the Premier League,” said Brian McDermott.
“He is a great lad, he works hard every day and he’s a natural finisher and we are delighted that he has made the decision to stay.”
Director of Football Nick Hammond said: “It's fitting reward for his hard work and the progression he made since signing from Rotherham. He was a big player for us last year and we are confident he will be this year as well.”
Reaction from both McDermott and Le Fondre will be available on Reading FC Player shortly.
