Jobi McAnuff is set to sit out Saturday's friendly with Crystal Palace, after picking up a slight hamstring strain.
The Royals skipper is expected to recover in time for the season opener with Stoke City on 18th August, but after coming off at half time during the 1-1 draw with Brighton this week - will not be risked against the Eagles.
Shaun Cummings is also a doubt after sitting out training through illness, though Chris Gunter could feature for the first time since joining the Royals from Nottingham Forest. Jimmy Kebe and Jason Roberts are sidelined.
Elsewhere Jem Karacan and Brynjar Gunnarsson will join up with the Reading Development Squad for a trip to Eastleigh - which will kick off at the same time as the Palace fixture.
