Update on goalkeeper

Royals Goalkeeper Alex McCarthy missed Saturday's 4-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers because of a knee injury, but manager Nigel Adkins hopes to have him available for selection for this weekend's home game with Millwall.

Our strength in the goalkeeping department was emphasised by Adam Federici's composed performance between the sticks on Saturday, and McCarthy hopes to join Feds and the rest of the squad back in training this week.

"I had little knock to my knee which opened up my medial a little bit," he told BBC Radio Berkshire after the game.

"It's nothing too serious - it was quite bad on Wednesday but it settled down really quickly and hopefully I'll be back in training next week."

"It was a massive result to get three points," he added, having watched the win from the sidelines. "After losing at Burnley and then having an international break it was important to get a win and we can take a lot from it into the Millwall game.

"We're very strong at home, we've got a lot of confidence and I think everyone can see that by the way we're playing."
