Reading 1-1 Newcastle

Alex McCarthy made his first appearance for the Royals in almost four months on Monday afternoon, as the under 21s were held to a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United.

A quiet first half saw Matt Partridge curl a left footed effort wide of the post, whilst Gozie Ugwu was also denied by a great save from Jonathan Mitchell.

The Royals took the lead after the break as Aaron Kuhl’s clever reverse pass release Nick Arnold, whose centre was coolly finished off by Aaron Tshibola.

McCarthy then saved well from Adam Campbell, before the visitors eventually leveled through Dan Gosling.

Ugwu fired wide late on, whilst Liam Kelly also tested Mitchell - but Chris Cummins' men were forced to settle for a point.
