Defender on 'massive test' against Everton

Defender Sean Morrison says that clean sheets will be the prerequisite for success as the Royals prepare to take on Everton tomorrow at the Madejski Stadium.

After being part of the defence that kept a solid clean sheet against Norwich last week, and came close to keeping one at QPR, the 21-year-old wants more shut-outs as the Reading strive to climb up the table.

"The teams that are successful are usually the ones who keep the most clean sheet," he explained. "So that's what we're trying to do. The lads will get the ball in the net at the other end so we're not worried about not scoring.

"We've had two important games recently and two draws - so it's not too bad. We just need to keep being solid at the back and throughout the team.

"If you look at our squad, it's a 'Reading' squad - and it's amazing. Last year we had a brilliant squad but we've just stepped up a notch this year. The manager here and the backroom staff have got an idea of what players they like and who they want here.

"It hasn't quite happened for us on the pitch yet but the group of lads we've got all get on well and train hard every day. If we can keep those clean sheets then we'll soon shoot up the league."

Morrison is delighted on a personal level to have broken into the side, and can't wait for the intelligent and physical battles that the likes of Nikicia Jelavic and Marouane Fellaini will pose on Saturday.

"I've waited a long time and to get a chance to play in the Premier League is fantastic. I just hope that, now the gaffer's given me the shirt, I can keep it.

"This league is so exciting - the pace can change from ridiculously slow to a crazy tempo within a couple of seconds. I'm relishing every moment of it.

"It's what you want to do - play against the best players and teams in the country. I've got the chance to play against Jelavic and Fellaini which will be a massive test. That's the only way I'll see what kind of player I am so I'm really excited to play.

Tomorrow's opponents currently sit fourth in the Barclays Premier League, and 'Morro' heaped praise on the work David Moyes has done at Goodison Park for a number of seasons.

"I've enjoyed watching Everton on the TV - they've been absolutely fantastic," he added. "You know what you get with a team that David Moyes manages. They're hard working, well organised and play some good football.

"They've been great for a number of years and have started well this season. It's going to be a hard game but all the boys are just looking forward to it."
