Alex Pearce has received praise from both international and club level following his Republic of Ireland debut on Tuesday evening.
The 23-year-old came off the bench in a 4-1 victory over Oman at Craven Cottage, even getting on the scoresheet by heading home from a set piece in the dying stages.
"He (Pearce) is physically good, technically good and heads the ball well," said Irish boss Giovanni Trapattoni.
"Now he just needs to learn our system".
Royals manager Brian McDermott also expressed his delight at Alex's successful night's work.
“I was really proud watching them all play last night, it was a great night. Pearcey got on at half-time and Doyler was playing up front with Longy – they were terrific together. And when Pearcey came on it was the icing on the cake. I went down to the dressing room afterwards and he was absolutely buzzing. He played every minute of every game last year – his is a really good story and I think all the younger players can look at Alex as a shining example.”
A special look at Pearcey's wonderful night will be available in this Sunday's programme - including the thoughts of the man himself!
