The Barclays Premier League fixture between Sunderland AFC and Reading FC has been postponed due to a water logged pitch.
Torrential rain across Wearside overnight and throughout Saturday in the build up to the game led to an inspection from Match Officials.
Despite attempts from club staff and the officials to get the game to go ahead, the postponement was announced by referee Nigel Swarbrick after thorough checks on the Stadium of Light pitch.
An announcement for the rearranged fixture will be made in due course and all tickets purchased will still be valid.
Referee Nigel Swarbrick said: "We spoke to both Martin and Brian about our thought processes, and as soon as we walked out onto the pitch with them they could understand our concerns and the issues with the pitch. The pools of water were getting larger and longer, and we agreed straight away that the game should be called off."
