An emotional tribute was paid before kick off on Sunday afternoon to the 96 fans who sadly lost their lives at Hillsborough on 15th April 1989.
Shortly before the start of the game, the anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ was played out across the stadium – and both sets of supporters responded magnificently, standing to applaud throughout the song’s entirety.
A message remembering the 96 was also displayed on the video screen.
“It was fantastic, and a touch of class,” said Brian McDermott.
“We’ve been to Liverpool, we’ve been to Anfield – and the fans and people of Liverpool are great football fans. What’s happened there has been absolutely awful, 96 people lost their lives 20 odd years ago – and justice is being done now, which is great.”
