Early goal the difference

An eighth minute strike from Belgian international Andreas Pereira proved the difference for our Academy away at Manchester United.

The Royals more than matched the Red Devils, particularly in the second half, but an early touch of class sealed the points for the hosts.

Eamonn Dolan's youngsters travelled to Lancashire for their first league fixture in four weeks to face Elite League leaders United.

The impressive Pereira was picked out by midfielder James Weir and finished coolly to take the all important lead in the opening stages.

Reading's U18s had two excellent chances to hit back before half time but were denied by an inspired performance from Italian goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini.

The Royals bombarded the United goal throughout the second half, had an effort saved off the line - but a real tussle of a game yielded no points for the unlucky Royals.
