Reading under-21s got back to winning ways with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Newcastle.

Chris Cummins named a universally youthful Royals squad for their Barclays Under-21 Premier League clash at Newcastle's Benton training ground, with Craig Tanner starting up front alongside Dominic Samuel.

Former Royals manager Alan Pardew watched on as Reading resisted the hosts' early pressure; Tom Heardman going close for the Toon with his head.

In a wind-affected match in the North East, Jordan Obita drilled home early on before Toon goalkeeper Jak Alnwick was sent off.

Obita fired in a free-kick moments before Craig Tanner rounded the substitute goalkeeper and give the Royals a unassailable half time lead.

United went down to nine men in the second half as substitute Jamie Sterry saw red for a rash tackle, and our youngsters saw out the game with ease.
