Reading 3 (Obita 27, Samuel 53, 75)
Reading's U21s got back to winning ways with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Norwich City at the Madejski Stadium.
Dominic Samuel and Jordan Obita bagged a goal and an assist each as the young Royals marched towards three points.
Samuel grabbed his second and Reading's third of the night late on to put the game beyond any doubt with a neat finish from just inside the area.
Chris Cummins named a strong side to take on Norwich in front of 600+ strong crowd at the stadium – with Adam Federici
, Alex Pearce and Ian Harte in the starting line up.
The Royals looked the better side in a somewhat anxious start to the game, and came close in the second minute when Simon Church shot just wide.
After successfully dealing with a couple of attacks from the Canaries, Reading took the lead mid-way through the first half.
Samuel picked out Obita with an audacious long ball – and the winger, returning from Pompey on loan, got the better of his marker and tapped in from close range after winning the ball back from his own cross.
Norwich's Steven Whittaker almost hit back for the Canaries when his header cannoned back off the cross bar – but 1-0 was how it stayed going into the break.
Reading doubled their lead just minutes into the second half. Obita turned provider this time – running down the left past his man to pick out Samuel, who found the net with an excellent side-footed effort.
Norwich 'keeper Declan Rudd twice denied the Royals before Samuel secured the win with his second of the game.
Receiving the ball just inside the 18-yard box, the striker swivelled and struck home neatly in the corner of the goal to make it three.
The young Royals saw out the game with consummate ease and will now look to take the positive win into next week's clash at West Brom.
