A fantastic solo goal from Craig Tanner earned Reading's under-21s a 1-1 draw with Norwich City in their first competitive game at Basingstoke Town's Camrose Ground.
The Royals started strongly and took the lead after 11 minutes. Tanner robbed a Norwich defender of the ball, surged towards goal cutting inside and striking past Remi Matthews in the Norwich net for 1-0.
City almost responded when Adel Gafaiti headed wide, before Aaron Tshibola struck an ambitious effort over the bar. Shaquille McDonald wasted a chance for the visitors shortly before half time.
After the break, Jake Cooper headed wide for Reading, moments before Reece Hall-Johnson struck wide for Norwich.
Martin Kuhl's men were holding onto their one goal advantage well until City substitute Carlton Morris broke away down the left and got the better of Royals stopper Stuart Moore to equalise.
Reading: Moore; Long, Griffin, Cooper, Sweeney; Kuhl (C), Tshibola, Stacey, Fosu (Cardwell 83); Samuel, Tanner (Kelly 70).
Subs not used: Lincoln, Hyam, Shaughnessy.
