Jem Karacan believes that the Royals will take inspiration from their showing at Old Trafford, ahead of an important Barclays Premier League clash with Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
The Turkish midfielder’s battling display exemplified the team’s spirit as a whole, and although it was the treble chasing Red Devils who progressed to the quarter finals – another spirited comeback showed that Brian McDermott’s men have plenty left in their locker.
“We’ve come to Manchester United and had them on the ropes at the end, we showed what we can do and we never back down,” said Jem.
“We give all we can and now we have to look forward to Wigan. We need the points, we know that. Hopefully tonight gave our fans something to cheer about.”
The 23-year-old acknowledged that United’s class shone through in the end, but revealed that the credit for Reading’s display didn’t just come from those in blue and white.
“The Man United fans clapped us off at the end and I think it shows something. I’m sure it was a terrific game to watch, but it was a tough game. They’re a great side, they have quality players out there and world class players coming off the bench. But our boys were unbelievable at times today.”
