Though he didn't get the present he would have wanted at the weekend, in the form of a Premier League win, birthday boy Mikele Leigertwood was encouraged by the point gained against Norwich.
The in-form Canaries proved to be stubborn opponents at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday, but the Royals managed to notch another point on the board and have now lost just once in six league games.
"It's progress and we'll take that into our next game," Mikele concluded. "We're on the right path, we're not losing and we're getting better.
"We kept a clean sheet which was a positive, we didn't create as much as we would have liked but we've got something to build on.
"We looked more solid at the back and I don't think Feds had too much to do. Norwich are a tough side and are hard to break down."
Leigertwood paid tribute to young Sean Morrison, who has performed admirably in a Royals shirt in the last three games, ahead of another crucial home encounter against high-flying Everton on Saturday.
"Morro has been outstanding since he's come into the side. For as young as he is, he's a good talker and he's a monster. He's a good lad and has waited a long time to get his chance and he's taking it.
"Everton a good side and in great form. But we've shown recently that the Madejski is a tough place to come and it's going to continue to be that way.
"We're just waiting for that result that could be a trigger for our season - hopefully it will come on Saturday."
