Kirby fires Royals to victory

Reading FC Women capped a fantastic few weeks on Thursday evening as they were crowned Premier League Southern Division Champions.

The Royals needed just a point from their clash with second placed Millwall Lionesses, but sealed the league in style with a 2-0 victory at The Den.

Goals from Fran Kirby and Becky Jane earned all three points in East London - just a fortnight after the ladies were granted Super League status and sealed a County Cup double.

It also caps a remarkable campaign for Kirby, who finishes as the division's top scorer with 19 goals despite playing just 12(+4) games after breaking her ankle early in the season. She has 30 strikes to her name in all competitions.

"We set out a goal at the beginning of the season and it was great to achieve it," Kirby told BBC Radio Berkshire.

"Playing at the New Den was quite intimidating and there was a good crowd, most of them for Millwall of course and it was nice to win. The club support us a lot and we got a lot of backing from the men's side."

Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Kelly Chambers and her squad for a superb season!
