Glowing praise in new football report
According to a new independent football report, Reading Football Club are the third-highest over-achieving club since the advent of the Premier League in 1992.
The New Football Pools commissioned a report to look into how clubs have fared in the last 16 seasons, and we have come out a very impressive third out of all 92 clubs.
The report compares where we were back in 1992, the money we have spent, attendance figures, our results and more besides. The complete 42-page report is available here and more details are at footballpools.com
The report states of us, 'In Division Two with average gates of around 4,000, the 1992 Reading vintage is very different to the one that almost sneaked into the UEFA Cup 15 months ago. Although life at the Madejski Stadium has been more financially beneficial than the days at Elm Park were, Reading have never been one of the game's big spenders, so their 8th place in their debut Premier League season was a huge achievement.
'Surprisingly they couldn't build on that and are now back in the Championship. Had Reading stayed up, they would have been the biggest over-achievers in this report.'
Doncaster Rovers come out on top of the entire list, with Premier League outfit Portsmouth in at second. Hull City and then Wigan come in after us.
At the other end, Sheffield Wednesday are the biggest under-achievers, followed by Wolves then Nottingham Forest, Coventry and Man City.
