Cheam School coached by Royals

Posted on: Wed 28 Nov 2007

Royals Community Coach Chris Sweetman has just finished an eight-week coaching stint at Cheam School near Newbury.

Chris - pictured here receiving his new community car from sponsors AA Clark - worked with two age groups and helped the teams to some good results.

He said, "Our coach Rob Perrit and myself went to the school every Monday for eight weeks and worked with Tom Haigh, the school's assistant headmaster who is in charge of sport.

"We worked with year three pupils and the school's first eleven team, and it was a very enjoyable experience - they were good learners and very receptive to our coaching.

"The year three team have only lost two games this year and the first eleven is undefeated since early October.

"One of the victories was against another of the schools we work with, Elstree, so it was split loyalties on that day!"

Cheam School is a leading public school, and Chris explained, "Most people know that we do a lot of work with deprived areas, but it's important for us to be involved with all sectors of the community and we enjoyed visiting Cheam School."
