Liam's anti-racism message

Posted on: Wed 06 Feb 2008

This week, Royals defender Liam Rosenior attended an event for 'Show Racism The Red Card' with 81 children from five local schools at Madejski Stadium's Study Centre.

Liam was accompanied by his father Leroy, a former player with QPR, Fulham and West Ham, and ex-manager of Torquay and Brentford.

Also in attendance were Show Racism The Red Card ambassadors Dean Gordon (a former Reading loanee), ex-Arsenal midfielder Paul Davis, Kieron Brady (formerly with Sunderland) and the Mayor of Reading, Chris Maskell.

The Year 8 children were invited from Prospect School, Hugh Faringdon School, Reading School, Reading School for Girls and Highdown School.

They were taken on a tour of Madejski Stadium before watching a presentation of a DVD featuring Thierry Henry, Rio Ferdinand and Ashley Cole amongst others.

Liam and his fellow panellists then faced a question and answer session with the children, discussing their experiences of racism in football.

The children who asked the best questions were awarded prizes including t-shirts, signed posters and a signed Leroy Lita picture.

Show Racism The Red Card harnesses the profile of sport to educate against racism, and more information is on their website at www.srtrc.org
