Coaches back from USA visit

Posted on: Wed 04 Jun 2008

Two Reading FC coaches have recently returned from a visit to North Carolina where they watched and engaged in coaching with Charlotte United.

United are a hugely well-respected club, with more than 120 teams of different age and ability.

Community Manager Lee Herron was joined by coach Natasha Caswell, who is an ex-England youth international and plays for our women's team.

They observed United's huge tryouts, with 1400 kids in attendance of both sexes, and Lee then coached the u10, u12, u16 and u18 boys' age groups.

Natasha coached the same age groups of girls, and women's football is extremely popular in the area, with superstar Mia Hamm hailing from nearby.

Lee said, "We were wonderfully well looked after by all the staff, and I'd like to give a special mention to Neil Orridge who is a director at the club.

"We were absolutely delighted to go over, it is such a professional and family environment all the way through, from coaches and parents to the kids, and it's without question a truly great club to play for.

"We look forward to going back soon to run a residential camp this summer."

Natasha said, "I was very much impressed by the number of girls taking part and the level of ability.

"There were some outstanding players on show, right down from the younger age groups upwards, and it's great to see that the women's game is taken so seriously.

"They have high class facilities, which will help the growth and success of the club.

"I'd like to give a massive thank you to all the staff of Charlotte United for making us so welcome."
