Reading FC have announced Andre Bikey as their ambassador for Kick It Out's One Game, One Community weeks of action initiative this month.

The 12 day period, from 16-28 October, will see 1000 events take place across the country. All 92 professional clubs, as well as conference and non-league clubs will hold activities to support the initiative, not to mention scores of schools, universities and community and youth centres, all of whom will be getting involved.

Bikey suffered racist abuse during his playing days with Lokomotiv Moscow in Russia and said, "I know from personal experience that being a victim of racism is a very bad feeling. It can really affect someone and we don't need it in football or in the world.

"In England I've not seen the same problems but it's still important to have campaigns like Kick It Out. We all need to work together to keep that mentality out of football. Everybody in the world watches English football, so it can set a good example to the rest of the world.

"Players from all over the world play in England so there is a great mix of cultures. Having a combination of players from Europe, Asia, Africa and America means you learn more about football and about everything in life, because you have the chance to get to know lots of different people and cultures. Football is the best sport in the world because it can unite people in this way."

After recently regaining his place in the Royals' team, Bikey has now got his sights set on regaining the Club's Premier League status. "We're feeling good after winning a few games. We want to get into first place in the league before Christmas, that's our aim now."

The meeting with QPR on Saturday 25th October has been designated as the Club's annual 'Kick It Out' fixture. Players will warm up in specially produced 'One Game, One Community' t-shirts and the Club is running a competition for young supporters to have the chance to parade a banner on the pitch before kick off.

Lord Herman Ouseley, founder of the equality and inclusion campaign, said: "We're delighted with the appointment of Andre Bikey as club ambassador for the weeks of action. Player activity like this is pivotal to the success of the campaign and it shows he and the club are getting into the spirit of One Game, One community."
