Bikey, Marcus & Wally's event

Posted on: Wed 17 Dec 2008

Marcus Hahnemann, Andre Bikey and Wally Downes joined in the Madejski Stadium Study Centre's Big Book Event on the morning of our home victory over Norwich City.

The Club's Study Centre ran the event in partnership with the National Literacy Trust and Penguin Books, with the intention of promoting reading and storytelling to children, as well as encouraging parents to read, play word games and tell stories with their kids.

Around 500 local children and their carers attended, including pupils from local primary and special schools, children in foster care, and competition winners from the Young Royals.

Each session consisted of storytelling and word games followed by a Q&A with the Royals' star. The morning's activities were a huge success and concluded 15 storytelling events which had been hosted in Reading libraries for local primary and secondary schools.

All three Royals offered an interesting insight into their personalities. Hahnemann explained one of his pre-match rituals, saying he always visits the toilet just before going out to play, and in his mind he must be in the tunnel before the noise of the flush has finished!

Bikey revealed (to a chorus of boos) that he was a Manchester United fan when watching football as a youngster, while Wally was asked to choose a book for himself from the piles on display - and picked 'How To Get A Supermodel's Body In 10 Days!'
