Reading Football Club were well represented at the second annual Kickz Awards night held at Wembley Stadium last week.
The Royals were nominated in four different categories and came away with one prestigious prize; Ray Harrison won the Volunteer of the Year award for 2009!
Our congratulations go to Ray Harrison, who was honoured in front of some top names from the world of football at a high profile ceremony held at Wembley.
Our Arts Award group were nominated for the alternative achievement award, Community Trust coach Gary Webb was nominated in the inspiring young people category, while Lauren Gotting was also up for an award for outstanding personal achievement.
The show, held on Thursday 29th October, was opened by Reading's arts award graduates, Paul Annetts, Matt Hassell and Nathen Hassell, who performed a musical piece they created as part of their Kickz education scheme.
The event showcased the most inspiring individuals that have made a difference to their community as part of the programme.
Kickz has more than 18,000 registered participants aged 12-18 living in tough areas, with high rates of crime.
39 professional football clubs from the Premier League and Football League are delivering more than 100 projects in partnership with the Police and local authorities across the country.
Kickz uses the power of football to 'build safer, stronger, more respectful communities through the development of young people's potential'.
A variety of activities including football, other sports, music, arts and developmental workshops on issues ranging from healthy lifestyles to the dangers of carrying weapons are delivered three nights a week, all year round.
