A group of young people from the Slough Prince's Trust Team Programme took the opportunity to visit Madejski Stadium late last month to work with our Community Trust coaches and take a sneaky peek behind the scenes at the Royals' home.
The young people, all aged between 16 to 25 years, first participated in a Critical Incident Workshop - working in small groups to decide on what actions they would take if they were managing a 5-a-side tournament in the local community and had to deal with a serious injury to a player.
The groups had to decide what their actions would be in the first ten minutes, which included emergency first aid, managing the participants and contacting the emergency services.
Following on from this they looked at what actions they would need to take in the first ten hours, ten days and ten weeks after the incident.
Once the young men and women had completed the workshop, they were given a tour of Madejski Stadium, which included a toe inside the Physio's room, the players' changing rooms and pitchside and dugout photo opportunities.
All the participants really enjoyed their time with the Royals Community Trust coaches and loved seeing how the club runs behind the scenes.
The activities were organised by our Community Trust's Social Inclusion Officer Gary Webb and formed part of a 12-week Prince's Trust Team Programme which the young attendees began in September.
Throughout the 12-week course the young people worked towards a City & Guilds Qualification in Personal, Teamwork and Community Skills and the aim of the Team Programme is to help young people move in to employment, education or training.
Connexions, who are the Delivery Partner managers in Berkshire, are now beginning to recruit for the Team programmes running in the New Year. There will be Team programmes running in Slough, Reading & Oxford with start dates in January.
