Royals are first in League campaign

Posted on: Wed 17 Feb 2010

Reading were the first club in The Football League to launch their Enjoy the Match campaign.

The Royals welcomed young children and families to The Madejski Stadium for the Championship clash against Watford earlier this season.

Enjoy the Match aims to promote a family friendly atmosphere at all 72 Football League clubs this season.

There is a renewed focus on removing abusive language and aggressive behaviour from family areas through increased stewarding and special big screen announcements.

Young Royals got the chance to practice their shooting in the special Speed Cages, and learnt tricks and skills with Freestyle World Champion Abbas Faird.

Families also took advantage of the discounted family meals on offer throughout the concourse.

Alex Rolph was one of five youngsters to parade the Enjoy the Match banner before kick-off.

Mum Sam said: "Alex had a truly wonderful day and has been in awe since!

"We had heard from other Young Royals how friendly everyone at the club is, and we were amazed and delighted to see just how true this is."

Season-ticket holder Mark Appleton captured the Enjoy the Match concept perfectly.

He said: "I've been a 'loyal Royal' for over 30 years and I feel duty-bound to help bring though the next generation of Reading FC supporters.

"It is important for me to bring my son, daughter, nephews and nieces to the club, and enjoy the match in a safe environment - which is what we have at The Madejski."
