Origin of our Royals nickname

Posted on: Fri 05 Sep 2008
In 1974 the Club changed their nickname from the Biscuitmen to the Royals after the old nickname became inappropriate with the closure of the Huntley & Palmers factory in the town centre.

A competition in the Reading Chronicle was begun, and 'The Royals' is believed to have been submitted by fan Bob Tanner.
