The Royals agreed a fee with Sheffield Wednesday for Sam Sodje earlier this week, and the 28-year-old defender has been contemplating a move to Yorkshire.

Boss Steve Coppell said, "We accepted the offer, Sam is training with us and Brian Laws is still very keen.

"I honestly don't know what the problem is.

"We agreed a fee on Monday, now it's Thursday and I don't know what the issues are.

"Wednesday are a terrific club, so like I say I don't know the delay is."

Steve was asked if any money from the sale of Sodje would go into the transfer pot, and he said, "It makes no difference.

"To be fair the Chairman offers sufficient funds to go where we can.

"It's wages that are the problem for a lot of bigger players."

With three right wingers currently on the treatment table, it would be natural to assume he is looking at a new winger, but he countered, "I don't have any priorities for signings.

"If the right-siders are fit then we've got two for each position and we're reasonably comfortable.

"If someone comes up that we've liked for a while, we'll do something. But to be honest I don't think it will happen."
