Live updates

6:55pm - The Royals have sauntered onto a beautiful looking Liberty Stadium pitch with blue skies above. It's certainly a far cry from Vetch Field.

6:58pm - Welsch under-21 forward Simon Church is part of the Royals' party and Leroy Lita and Dave Kitson are set to start up front together.

7:15pm - Yazz's 'The Only Way Is Up' is the first song played out on the PA system as the Royals begin passing drills in pairs to warm up.

7:24pm - We have now been entertained by Take That and a little bit of Madness. Both teams are still out warming up at opposite ends. The Royals are to our left in the press box now doing some running exercises.

7:34pm - No surprise. Tom Jones has made an entrance onto the pre-match playlist. Delilah is now ringing around a relatively empty Liberty Stadium. The Swans are walking off the pitch now with little more than 10 minutes before kick off.

7:41pm - The announcer is tentatively working his way through the Royals starting line-up and he does quite well with the pronunciation of some of our more foriegn sounding names. He is immediately more at home with the hosts' surnames.

7:43pm - The two teams are out now and Reading are in their black and grey hoops.

7:45pm - Kick off.

2 mins - Duberry is closed down quickly by a Swansea forward and he has to put it out for a throw. Swansea have started at a high tempo.

5 mins - Ian Craney has the first shot on goal after riding a challenge from Bobby Convey and off balance drilling low to Federici's left. But the Aussie is easily behind it and he makes a comfortable save.

8 mins - Kitson wins a free kick as he is held down while challenging for a long ball from the back. The big boys come up from the back but Convey can only curl it into Dorus De Vries' palms at the far post.

13 mins - The visitors have begun very tentatively and Swansea are enjoying most of the possession. No real chances for either keeper to deal with yet though.

15 mins - Sam Sodje goes in strongly on the right flank right in front of the dugouts. He gets the ball but is shown the yellow card to his dismay and Wally Downes' amazement.

20 mins - Lita chases onto Federici's deep clearance but the keeper is always favourite to claim it. He does and unnecessarily kicks a leg out just in case he is caught by Lita's follow through.

22 mins - Now there is some needle with the referee who has a word with Michael Duberry after he stayed on the ground too long after receiving a hefty challenge.

24 mins - Emerse Fae dances past his man with some quick feet and finds John Halls racing down the right on his outside. The full back whips in a cross to Lita at the near post, but the Royals frontman can't get enough purchase on his header to trouble De Vries at his near post.

28 mins - Swansea's midfielder Joe Allen skips in between Fae and Halls on the right and into the box. He lashes a snapshot at goal but it swerves low across the face of goal and well wide of Federici's far post. One good chance apiece though now.

31 mins - A beautiful flick from Lita finds Kitson down the Royals' right. Lita is bundled over so can't continue his run into the box but Kitson cuts it across to Harper arriving late into the box. He tries to place it past De Vries but instead he sidefoots it straight at the keeper who stoops to calmly collect. A great chance.

32 mins - Lita is posing the main threat to Swansea's defence and he turns Dennis Lawrence well on the right side of the box. They tangle and go to ground with Lita appealing for a penalty but nothing is given.

33 mins - Swansea break at pace and Andy Robinson is slid in. Sodje comes across to block his shot well and concede a corner. It's taken short but Reading can clear.

38 mins - Paul Anderson tries his luck from distance and Federici is at full stretch without producing a dive. He nonchalantly pats it down and collects it after one bounce to make the save look easy.

41 mins - Good work from Kitson and Convey earn the Royals a corner on the left. It is easily cleared and Harper misplaces a pass out to Fae and the Swans have a throw. It's just not quite clicking for the Premier League side as of yet.

45(+1) mins - The last kick of the half sees Halls launch a free kick into the box but it goes behind harmlessly for a goalkick.

HALF TIME - It has been a game that has been a little disappointing so far. In fits and starts the Royals have looked dangerous but keeper De Vries has not been troubled yet and Swansea will fancy their chances at the interval.

46 mins - Immediately there is more urgency in the Royals' approach. Kitson flicks it into Convey's path. He stabs it across to Lita in a central position but he has to swivel as he is surrounded by players and he earns a corner. It is swept in where Cisse has a free header and he glances it down only to see it blocked at the far post by a Swans defender. City scramble it clear.

49 mins - Swansea substitution. Leon Britton is on in place od Robinson.

56 mins - Anderson weaves his way in from the left and fires at goal from 25 yards out. Federici is sprawling to his right but it fizzes wide of the Aussie's right post to Reading's relief.

58 mins - RED CARD! Sodje goes into a tackle with Guillem Bauza from behind but he doesn't get much of the ball. The referee whips the yellow card out and it's Sodje's second. Kevin Dillon and the rest of the Reading bench are furious with the decision. Sodje is sent off though and Reading now have to battle for more than half an hour and maybe extra time with ten men. Very unlucky again.

62 mins - Swansea are now looking for the win with a little more belief. Cisse has filled in at centre-back for now with Kitson deployed on the right side of midfield as Fae comes central.

69 mins - Convey races past Rangel and into the box. He seems to have ayard on him but the defender gets back to touch it behind for a corner. It is swung in from the right and Kitson rises. It cannons into a couple of bodies and a few half-hearted appeals for handball go up from Royals players. Nothing is given. Swansea break and Cisse drags his man back to rightfully recieve a yellow card.

73 mins - Double Swansea substitution. Bauza and O'Leary are swapped for Jason Scotland and Darryl Duffy. The hosts have switched to a 4-4-2 formation in an attempt to win this now.

75 mins - The referee now spots an innocuous tug on a shirt from Duberry and awards Swansea a free kick on the right. They take it short but De Le Cruz and Convey combine to intercept and see it behind for a goal kick.

78 mins - Kitson wins a free kick 22 yards out and Emerse Fae and Convey line it up. Lita comes across at the last minute to take charge but he waywardly fires high and wide to jeers from the home support.

81 mins - Federici's long kick is aimed at Kitson. He's beaten in the air but it coems to Harper who heads it straight back to an onside Kitson. He is in on goal but delays his shot until the last minute and his left-footed sidefoot shot is saved by De Vries' legs at the near post. A good chance goes begging.

85 mins - Lita wins a corner which Kitson recycles on the right side. He floats a cross into the box where Duberry has stayed up but the ball is too far behind him and the centre back can only glance it wide of the far post.

89 mins - Swansea break and Anderson is slid in. He races into the box and Cisse is desperately backtracking to get to him. He slides to toe the ball behind with a stunning tackle. The home support appeal in their droves for a penalty but it was a great challenge and the referee points for a corner.

90 mins - Scotland chips a cross to the far post from the byline and Rangel is free 10 ayrds out. He slices his first time volley high over the bar. That was a close shave.

FULL TIME - The finals whistle sounds after three minutes of injury time and extra time awaits us here at the Liberty Stadium.

93 mins - Kitson flicks it onto Lita inside the box. Lita chests it into his body and fires it towards the near post but the keeper parries and Lita is flagged offside regardless.#

99 mins - Double Reading substitution. Halls and Convey make way for fresh legs in the form of Scott Golbourne and Simon Cox.

101 mins - Fae strides past two players and surges through the middle. Reading have a man over. He lays it to his left where Harper is alongside him, but Harper's left-footed strike is from a narrowing angle and De Vries parries it with his legs. It falls to a white shirt and Swansea clear.

104 mins - Scotland scuttles across the edge of the area and Duberry is down injured. It falls into space behind the back line and Anderson is there first. He fires towards the right corner and Federici pulls off a stunning fingertip save to turn it round his post. The officials didn't spot it somehow and a goal kick is awarded.

105 mins - GOAL!! Just before the half time stage in extra time and Reading have the lead. Kitson's long legs brilliantly kept the ball in on the byline on the left and he cuts it back to Lita at the near post. Lita produces a deft from the tightest of angles and it bobbles through De Vries and over the line. 1-0! Lita wheels away at pace down the sideline towards Wally Downes in the technical area who pats him on the head at the end of a joyous 'Klinsmann-esque' slide.

HALF TIME EXTRA TIME - Reading have broken the deadlock but have 15 nervous minutes to last with ten men.

107 mins - Duberry uses his upper body strength to ease Darryl Duffy off the ball inside the box. Very speculative penalty shouts ring around the ground but nothign is given. Just good defending from the Royals centre back.

111 mins - Fae blocks an attack on the right and concedes a free kick. His protests get him booked. The cross falls to Craney just outside the box - he fires and Federici watches it through a crowd to parry with firm hands. It falls out to Monk on the edge of a crowded six yard box who stabs it onto the top of the crossbar. Agonisingly close to a leveller.

116 mins - Lita wins a free kick as Reading keep the ball well in the final third. The Royals take their time and Cox eventually steps up to curl it harmlessly over.

118 mins - Andwerson has space on the left and he crosses dangerously into the box. Lawrence gets up and wins it well but Federici jumps to make sure it is goign over. It is and it lands on the top of his net.

120 mins - A cross from the right is skewed behind and one minute of injury time is to be played.

120 mins - Reading substitution. To kill a bit of time Steve Coppell is making a change. Lita is off and Alex Pearce is on.

FULL TIME - The Royals have progressed despite being forced to play for more than an hour with ten men. Leroy Lita's goal was the difference in a tight game throughout. The Royals are beckoned over by skipper James Harper to applaud the travelling support that made the journey down the M4. We await the draw for the next round now as the Royals are in the hat.
