2:25pm - Rob Styles is today's fouth official. Keith Stroud takes charge.

2:36pm - Kunle Odetoyinbo, the new Royals sports scientist is warming the side up for the first time at Madejski Stadium.

2:55pm - The teams come out for a massive game to a rapturous welcome. The slightly adapted new pre-match video went down well and the the Royals fans and players alike seem up for this one.

2:59pm - Liam Rosenior is given an excellent welcome as he makes his home debut this afternoon.

4 mins - The game has started with both teams looking to attack. Wigan look to be trying to slow the game down and quieten a vociferous crowd early on.

7 mins - Kitson turns brilliantly and strikes from 25 yards out. It is easily blocked but he has won a free kick.

9 mins - Kevin Doyle battles past Andreas Granqvist and is racing clear towards the edge of the box. From left of centre he has Kitson to aim for but his cross-shot sais past Chris Kirkland and across the face of goal. Kirkland has it for a goal kick.

13 mins - The Royals have started well and are looking positive. The crowd have been lifted by this start.

16 mins - Doyle wins an flick on and Rosenior is in! He's one on one with Kirkland and he strikes from the edge of the area. Kirkland is off his line to narrow the angle and he saves well to push it wide and deny the Royals debutant the opener.

17 mins - Kitson does well to turn his man on the right and he fizzes a low cross into the box. Wigan scramble away but more good work up front.

19 mins - Kitson wins another corner which Shorey swings in. Kitson glances it towards the top left corner and it's going in until Granqvist heads it wide from only a yard off his line.

20 mins - Rosenior takes this corner from the right and swings it into the far post. Michael Duberry is arriving and he gets to it over his marker but from a tight angle he nods it into the side netting. Close again!

22 mins - Elsewhere, on-loan Simon Cox has scored for Swindon to but the Robins ahead against Bournemouth.

23 mins - Kitson has time to turn in midfield and he slots a pass into James Harper's path. The midfielder squares it into the middle but a Wigan defender hacks it clear from inside his six yard box.

29 mins - GOAL! Doyle's glanced header ricochets back to him and he twists and turns inside the box. He eventually works the space to shoot low with his left foot and Kirkland is down well. He fumbles it though and Kitson nips in to tap home from yards out. 1-0!

30 mins - The celebrations are cut short. Koumas shows very quick feet to skip past a number of challenges and to the edge of the box. Ingimarsson trips him and initially it looks like referee Keith Stroud points to the penalty spot. The linesman is flagging for a free kick though! He consults with his linesman and opts to award a free kick on the edge of the area. Wigan are furious!

32 mins - Koumas stands over it and he arcs it over the Royals wall and Hahnemann can only watch as it dips to hit the underside of the crossbar. Eventually Gunnarsson hacks it half clear and Reading can breathe again. A massive let off.

35 mins - Brown lashes out with a kick out at Kitson. Stroud spots it and awards a free kick before showing Brown a booking. Shorey curls it in temptingly but Kevin Kilbane hoofs it out for a throw.

37 mins - Replays are being shown in the press box now of the penalty incident and it seems he made the right decision as Ingimarsson connects just outside the box.

42 mins - The Royals are still looking like the better team but a little nervy at times. I think Steve Coppell would like half time to arrive just so his players can take stock.

45 mins - Rosenior concedes a foul and is booked. Koumas is behind it again but his effort is too far out this time and Hahnemann gets across to save well to his right.

HALF TIME - The Royals have a single-goal lead which looks a little fragile. They'll need another before they can breathe a little easier.

46 mins - Duberry launches a ball forward and Kitson flicks it on. Rosenior is running onto it and edges into the box with Kilbane trying to tackle back at him. Rosenior can't get a good shot in but chips an effort from a tight angle which floats wide of the far post.

50 mins - GOAL! Scharner has it on the right and Ingimarsson has to stretch to knock his right sided cross behind for a corner. Koumas takes it and Marcus Bent rises high unchallenged to power home an 8-yard header. Another goal conceded so soon after the interval. Steve Coppell must be fuming!

52 mins - Rosenior down the right touches it inside to Kitson, who arcs an effort harmlessly wide of the far post. Reading need another good chance to lift the spirits.

58 mins - Kitson chests it down well to Rosenior who tries his luck from the edge of the box. It never has the power in it to trouble Kirkland and it squirms wide of the left post.

60 mins - Bent is in behind Murty down the left and from a tight angle strikes low towards the far post. Hahnemann is down well to parry and Ingimarsson mops up to hack away.

62 mins - Wigan are having all of the play now. This is worrying. So much so that Bobby Convey is preparing to come on for Rosenior. The substitution is made as Wigan prepare to take a corner.

66 mins - Convey feeds Kitson on the right and Kitson does well to turn inside and slide a ball almost through to Doyle. The Irishman is flagged offside but Kirkland races out to gather before he gan get a toe to it anyway.

67 mins - Convey swings it into the far post from the right and Hunt rises above his markers to win the header but he can't get enough purchase on it to trouble Kirkland and it bobbles wide.

70 mins - Doyle runs at his man fro half way to the edge of the area. He pulls the trigger with his left boot but Kirkland calmly gathers this one.

73 mins - Kitson turns and sweeps it out to Convey on the right. The US midfielder drills a low cross dangerously across the six yard box and Kitson lunges desperately at it at the far post. he is inches away from a decisive toe but it slide wide and behind.

79 mins - It's all a bit scrappy with neither side looking likely to score another.

80 mins - Wigan substitution. Julius Aghahowa is on for Sibierski.

82 mins - Convey races into Wigan's half but is tripped by Brown. The referee is having a word with the Latics midfielder but no second yellow is produced.

83 mins - Convey delivers a beautiful ball to the back post where Duberry battles onto it. He can only head down and back into the six yard box and the danger is cleared.

84 mins - Gunnarsson is stupidly caught in possession in midfield and Bent races away one on one with Hahnemann. His pace takes him away from Duberry, but the centre-back shows good tenacity and slides in to brilliantly block the strikers 18-yard effort.

87 mins - Aghahowa is in behind the Royals defence and clean through. Hahnemann races out of his box and slides at his feet. Aghahowa manages to touch it past the Royals keeper but somehow Hahnemann has done enough to send him wide and what looked likely to be a certain winner fizzles out.

90 mins - GOAL! Kitson comes wide to collect a throw and scuttles in from the right. He deftly flicks it through the Wigan back line into Harper's path and he's in. He neatly tucks it past Kirkland and into the net. It's 2-1!

90(+1) mins - Doyle is in behind the back line and racing into the box. Bramble gets back at him to put pressure on and but Doyle stays strong. He tries to poke it past Kirkland but the Latics keeper does enough to deflect it wide of his left post. Can Reading hold on for three minutes of injury time?

90(+2) mins - It is the home side holding on. Granqvist does well on the right and chips a cross into the box, but Murty is trhere to head behind and concede a corner.

90(+3) mins - Reading substitution. Andre Bikey is on for Doyle.

90(+3) mins - ojne corner is scrambled behind and Bramble and Hahnemann have a coming together behind the goal as the Wigan man tries to get the ball back quickly. Both are booked. A free kick is awarded from the second corner and Reading can breathe easy.

FULL TIME - The whistle sounds and the Royals have snatched a last gasp win! It was far from convincing but how important could these three points be?
