Murty boosted by improvement

Posted on: Thu 31 Jan 2008

After our improved second half performance against Chelsea, Graeme Murty is ready for the big game at home to Bolton this weekend.

Steve Coppell's half time team talk helped lift the Royals at Stamford Bridge, and although Avram Grant's men had more chances, we could have nicked an unlikely point.

We now prepare for the visit of Gary Megson's Wanderers, a game that Graeme admits brings more pressure in terms of needing a result to help our cause.

He said, "I think we have always put more pressure on the home games.

"If you look at the teams around us, those are the ones we have always said we need to win.

"When you go to places like Chelsea I think anything you get from the game is a bonus.

"The second half was better, a heck of a lot better. If we'd started like that we could have got something from it.

"In the first half we allowed them far too much space. We gave them respect, we have to start a lot sharper than that.

"After the break it was a lot more even and everyone understood their pattern a bit more."

Marcus Hahnemann made some very important saves throughout the game, and helped keep us in it, especially in the first half.

The skipper praised the big American, saying, "Marcus has been on form for a long time.

"A lot of people had written him off, which is totally wrong. I have said all season that he's been superb.

"As a back four we were tight and in the second half showed a bit more of what we're about."
