Nicky - I'm sorry for Kits

Posted on: Fri 01 Feb 2008

Nicky Shorey is pleased to have been named in Fabio Capello's first England squad, but was naturally disappointed to see teammate Dave Kitson miss out.

Shorey has been included in the initial 30-man party, which will be cut down to 23 this Saturday evening.

Nicky told readingfc.co.uk he was pleased to be included, but felt for his teammate Kitson.

Shorey said, "I think it's right that Dave has been mentioned in terms of England, given the way he's played and scored goals for us this season.

"He deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as the other quality players in the squad."

Nicky is still somewhat cautious about his own chances of making the final 23, and refuses to count his chickens.

He said, "It's great to be in there but of course it's provisional. I hope I get the call and it's nice to be in the manager's thoughts.

"With any new manager, you just have to get your head down and try to play well because it's a great opportunity to represent your country.

"The squad will be cut down, so you never know for sure until you get there."

Finally, Nicky is ready to get down to club business in our vital game with Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

"I'm looking forward to it. We ended the Chelsea game well, and we've got to take that into Saturday's match.

"It's inevitable that we realise we're in a dogfight. We've got players who can thrive under that pressure, we can relax and play our normal game."
