McDermott hails Lita, Long & Kebe
Brian McDermott was understandably delighted with the display of his reserve team in Wednesday's 5-0 thrashing of Derby County.
The second string chief told readingfc.co.uk, "It was a terrific performance, especially in the second half.
"It was a tough night because it was freezing cold, the pitch was a bit bobbly and there weren't many people watching, and in situations like that it can be difficult for experienced players to get themselves up for it.
"But we've got such good professionals at our club - people like Ivar Ingimarsson and Ulises De La Cruz who have been there and done the lot but still produced the goods on a night like that.
"Derby had a strong side out with some expensive players but we were excellent throughout the game and I was pleased that we scored the goals because we deserved them."
Leroy Lita grabbed the headlines with four goals, and Brian enthused, "I was so pleased for Leroy. Not just because he got the four goals, but also because he worked really hard, closing defenders down and holding the ball up. And his goals were terrific finishes.
"Shane Long also played very well. We know that he's got tremendous potential and he showed that with his goal, which was a brilliant solo effort. He also made a couple of goals and, like Leroy, worked really hard."
Another player to catch the eye was winger Jimmy Kebe, who Brian watched on numerous occasions during his loan spell at Boulogne before the Royals swooped for his signature in January.
Brian noted, "He showed some terrific ability. It was his first full game for quite a while and it wasn't easy for him on that surface, but I think he's got a massive amount to offer.
"He's very quick, he's got good feet, he can go through tackles and defenders struggle to stop him. He's just different, and I think he'll become a big favourite here."
