Coppell: Spain trip is for work

Posted on: Wed 12 Mar 2008

Steve Coppell and his first team squad are out in Spain at the moment for a training camp, and the boss says the trip is completely work focused.

The players met just after 5am on Sunday morning to fly out, and they return to the UK late on Wednesday evening.

Steve will lead the players through two training sessions each day, and hopes it pays dividends as we approach the final nine games of the season.

He said, "We'll be working twice every day. Work harder, play better, that's what I keep saying.

"With the way the weather is in the UK compared to Spain, we can focus a lot more on the job in hand and doing our work out on the training pitch. The pitches at Hogwood have had a lot of use, and this is a chance for us to get out there and not worry about that.

"We've had trips in the last couple of years, but they have been more toward the end of the season. The emphasis then has been on being together and almost celebrating our achievements, but in the circumstances we are in now, it is work focused. It has to be.

"In Spain we have no responsibilities other than the job at hand. To be fair, the players have been terrific from that point of view and I couldn't have asked any more."

Glen Little is with the squad and training, but Graeme Murty and Emerse Fae have not travelled. Brynjar Gunnarsson had a groin operation in London on Monday.

Tickets for all of our remaining home games this season are now on sale. Go to the Home Games page for more details.
