20 years ago today, the Royals enjoyed one of the most memorable days in their history when they lifted the Simod Cup at Wembley.
After beating top flight teams like QPR, Oxford and Brian Clough's Nottm Forest on the way, the Royals took on Luton Town in the showpiece final, and came from behind to earn a thrilling 4-1 victory in front of the Twin Towers.
Mick Harford headed Luton in front, but Reading were not overawed on the big stage, and Michael Gilkes' cross shot dropped in to quickly level matters.
Five minutes later Gilkes was brought down for a penalty, and Stuart Beavon struck an absolutely brilliant spot kick, showing nerves of steel to smack into the top corner.
Mick Tait soon hit the bar as Reading turned the screw, and it was Tait who made it 3-1 after a cracking Neil Smillie run.
Smillie then rounded off a fabulous afternoon, smacking a fourth past Les Sealey to seal an incredible day.
A crowd of 61,740 saw the game, the biggest in the Club's history at that time, and the majority came from Berkshire.
A special Simod Cup celebration dinner is being held at the Holiday Inn in Reading this Friday, and a sell-out crowd will see the likes of Gilkes, Martin Hicks, manager Ian Branfoot and many more as they relive a great day.
A number of the winning squad will then be out on the pitch before Saturday's game with Blackburn, parading the cup.
