Simod Cup winners honoured

Posted on: Wed 02 Apr 2008

During half time at Saturday's game with Blackburn, six of our 1988 Simod Cup-winning team were honoured out on the Madejski Stadium pitch.

Twenty years ago last week, we defeated Luton Town 4-1 at Wembley Stadium to lift the cup for one of the most memorable days in the Club's history.

A special dinner was held on Friday evening at the Holiday Inn in Reading, and more than £1500 was raised for the Royals' ex-players' association.

Then on Saturday six of the team were able to make it out in front of our home support, and they received a loud ovation at half time as they came out with the trophy.

Michael Gilkes, Jerry Williams, Linden Jones, Stuart Beavon, Mick Tait and Neil Smillie paraded the trophy.
